Day 3 of Love…Things That Go Bump in the Night
Don’t forget…I’m using a new commenting system so if your comment doesn’t show up right away–I’ll free you asap! Also today is my half day at work and I have tons of errands to run in the afternoon, which means I might not be able to free you as soon as I’d like–bear with me!
THE WINNER OF SHELLI STEVENS’ TAKE ME AND THE LOWES GIFT CARD (and your choice from my backlist) IS….. KELLY H! (Up at the top of my site is a list of drop-down menus. If you go to DIRTY SKINNY, you’ll see one labeled contact–it’ll open a pop-up window for you to email me. If for some reason, it doesn’t work for you, leave me a comment and I’ll get in touch!)
I used to LOVE me some scary movies. LOVE THEM. Maybe it’s a rite of passage as a teenager. But I can’t watch them like
I used to–I blame part of it on old age and part of it on being a writer. We writers can be … more critical than most about things like … say… plot holes LOL. And then there’s the whole ’slasher’ thing. I’m not sure that yesterday’s horror movies (and I’m talking circa 1980 something ya’ll) are any better or worse than todays–then again, considering so many of todays are remakes, maybe the originals WERE pretty good! I watched every (and I mean EVERY) Freddy Kruger movie ever made…but remember being more than a little disappointed when I got my first glimpse of the man behind the mask–Robert Englund. A more nerdy fellow I’d never seen but I suppose it’s a true testament to his skills (don’t laugh!) that he managed to pull off a character like Freddy Kreuger! This weekend we went to see Legion (which rocked despite some plot holes) and I got a HUGE kick out of seeing the trailer for the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. I guess you could say there’s a bit of nostalgia there for those old flicks that used to scare the bejebbus out of me but these days it takes a lot more than funky gloves to scare me! LOL
Funny enough, my friend Denise, (who is one of the funniest people I know and who has the lowest suspension of
disbelief threshhold of ANYONE I know, LOVES the show Ghost Hunters! Go Figure! And since today’s post is about things that go bump in the night, and nothing says ‘bump in the night’ like ghosts, today’s prize is an e-copy of Denise’s book SECOND CHANCES (which has NOTHING to do with ghosts! LOL). I’m also giving away an e-copy of Raine Weaver’s HOTTER THAN HELL-after all, what’s scarier than an incubus? I mean, really! Incubus….ghost….Incubus….ghosts. Yeah I”m going with the incubus, ya’ll.
Also included in today’s prize pack are winner’s choice of a) a book from my backlist and b) your choice of Ghost Hunter’s Season 1 or Nightmare on Elm Street movie pack (this is movie’s 1-4).
So, do you like scary? Do you like to be scared? What are some of your all time favorite scary or suspensful movies and why?

I don't like scary movies anymore……the reality of what man can and has done to people in the world scares me more than any movie ever could. I am too paranoid as it is. I do watch Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State. Their logic and the conclusion of little to no paranormal activity soothes me
the reality of what man can and has done to people in the world scares me more than any movie ever could.
I took the kids to see Legion and as we were leaving B and his friend both commented that they wanted more fighting which kind of made me sad for a # of reasons including the fact it took so much to … satisfy them … and that they don't seem to be able to appreciate suspense and tension (from a writer's perspective anyway) for what it is. One of the best scary movies EVER? What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford. No blood. No slash. No real gore, just lots of great tension. I like the tension…and the zing of the GOTCHA a lto more than the actual horror these days.
Amen (though I probably will go see the remake of Nightmare *blush*) …. and most scary movies aren't even "scary" anymore–they're slash-porn
I was always a HUGE horror movie fan. Ate ‘em up.
The thrill lessened, however, once I started living alone. (snort!).
…after all, what’s scarier than an incubus? I mean, really!
Well…okay…
But what’s more fun?
I can think of worse ways to die!
lol I used to watch those old shows back in the day. nightmare, halloween, Friday the 13thl. Just not interested in watching them anymore. Too much gore and too many stupic heroines. We used to holler at the girls in those movies especially friday the 13. They'd get Jason down but wouldn't take him out. I love the suspense movie more so that the slasher flicks now. But I will say one time we were watching firday the 13 at a friends house late late @ night. Her parents worked third shift and someone knocked on the door and those big babies i was with wouldn't answer it. I did and when I did my BF at the time jerked me out the door. It was funny after I found out who it was but all those my friends could see was someone jerking me outside. My BFF finally came out after me she had the biiggest butcher knife in her hand. She was scrared spitless. I thought she was going to hit my Boyfriend.
I think the most scary movie I have ever seen would be 'The Ring' I also liked 'The Ghost Ship' and Quarantine. Oh so scary.

I love scary movies even the cheesy ones like the Friday the 13th movies. Some of my other favorites include "The Exorcist," "House of Wax"(1953 version)" and "Urban Legend."
Dude… der…. I could throw in a Copy of GHOST OF A CHANCE which DOES have a ghost (or 2) in it.
hmm… an incubus you say. Its awfully tempting. I’ve never read a romance novel with that idea as the plot theme.
I find that scary movies often like to mix in the meaning of science into their creations these days. Oh how fond I was of the older movies that just did a very good job in messing with the psychology of one’s mind =)
I love scary and Ghost Hunters is seriously one of my favorite shows, watch it every week. Actually watching it now (its commercials). The Exorcist is probably the scariest movie to me, completely freaked me out as a kid and still gives me the creeps. Theres not a lot of recent movies that can still have that effect. Even the remakes arent really as creepy. I find the original Omen much scarier than the remake was. Really disappointing,. Im always on the lookout for a good scary movie or ghost story.
When I was a kid, they had the original House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price on the Saturday night Creature Feature here in Omaha. My cousins, brothers and I stayed up to 10 PM ( a major accomplishment in the early 60s) and watched. Scared the absolute bejeebers out of me.
I love to be scared i love the feeling the rush vamp movies anything that isnt really cheesy i honestly adore i cant think of one horror flick that i have whated that i have hated. for me the first Night mare on elm streets were well awesome I love them cant wait for the new version to come out, Halloween the first few of those also classic the first few jason movies love um. My all time favorite movie and why it stillgives me the chills and a good scar is IT that movie and book lets just say i have a great dislike for clowns. My better half knows how much i love horror flicks he sorta makes fun of me lol but lately tho hasnt been many really good ones ohh andthe Omen the original is worsethen the first remade by far
I am not much of a fan of scary movies but my husband loves them.
