Day 4 of Love…Social Media

Follow Dear Son

The winner of yesterday’s THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT give-away is Lisa954! Congrats!  You’ve got 24 hours to contact me and you’ve won e-books from both Denise McDonald and Raine Weaver as well as your choice of Ghost Hunter’s Season 1 or Nightmare on Elm Street movie pack (movie’s 1-4).

I’ve been blogging since 2004, I’ve Myspaced and Facebooked, and joined writer’s groups and I Twitter.  Tweet?  I’m a Twitter-er?  Uh anyway…admittedly all the online contact can be a huge time-suck/waste/energy drainer but for writers, who tend to spend a lot of time in isolation (and/or their heads), social media is a great way for us to get out and interact with real humans (most of the time!).  Matter of fact, I even have two Twitter accounts! I know I know! There’s me and then there’s Dear Son where I talk bad about my kids.  Ok I don’t REALLY talk bad about my kids–I just say stuff on Twitter that I can’t say to their faces because, yeah, it’s inappropriate.

Case in point: What part of ‘actions have consequences’ is so difficult 2 understand? U were bad n now ur being punished. Same as when u were 2.

Follow Me!

And I’ll be honest, I love Twitter like a fat kid loves cake–trust me on this (I was a fat kid).  I probably waste too much time on Twitter and I probably say things I shouldn’t on Twitter (hello…Dear_Son :D ).  But Twitter is one of the few places you can say things like this:

@karenerickson: I know…is it wrong I like that song Tik Tok cos she “brushes her teeth with a bottle of Jack”?

@gwenhayes: I think the last ep of LOST will be Bobby Ewing coming out of the shower telling his autistic son to put away the snow globe.

@mark_henry Chat it up, Bitches! I’m still at Bitten by Books until Midnight! http://bit.ly/aqpPhy

and @LilliFeisty: These are very naughty pirates.

Thanks to Twitter, I’ve made some great new writer friends like @thrillerchick, @ladyhawkins, @MyraMcEntire, @jennygardner, @jenthegingerkid — who lives like FIVE MINUTES from me so I even know her IRL uh…in real life — @gwenhayes, @giguhl, @cheekywench & @jeannevb JUST to name a few!  And I’ve discovered some fabulous new-to-me authors! (like @thrillerchick aka J. T. Ellison!).

So do you Tweet?  Do you Facebook?  Do you Myspace?  What are the rules of your Twittering road?

Or do you eschew social media entirely?  If so, come to the dark side–we have cookies!

Today’s prize is your choice from my backlist & Karen Erickson (that’s @KarenErickson for you Twitter folks) LUCK OF THE DRAW.  This is a print book containing three novellas and Karen will ship anywhere in the US and Canada.

I have a Facebook account that I use a little. I also have a Twitter account but frankly I don’t know how to use it. I mean, how do you tweet, I just don’t get it. I’m going to have to study this whole process. I never got a MySpace page and now they probably aren’t used as much as Facebook and Twitter. I love the internet but I’m not that skilled at the social media.

I don't have a facebook or MySpace account. But I finalloy gave in and got a twitter account. I use it mostly for contests though.I follow alot of authors. Its a great way to read what they are doing.

I have a facebook account thanks to my sister :-) I don't tweet or myspace. I don't really understand tweeting for one thing. Plus everything is blocked at work and i can't get around my firewall (trust me i've tried) and once I get home the children consume every waking hour.

  4. Leni says:

I don't twitter and I don't have Facebook / MySpace accounts. I don't understand all of the chopped up words so I mainly stick with email and that is a bit time consuming.

awwww you really do love me. :)

My FB page is a morgue. I tweet. For writers, I highly recommend it for the support system alone. Beyond writers, I've met agents, friends, and even gotten job opportunities. Best part: I can see who is behind the title with their voice in 140 chars. Some agents are far cooler than I thought…. and some I now wouldnt query if my life depended on it. Knowledge is power. Its amazing how much knowledge you can gain in a tweet!

Oh I have all of the above! Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, blog…ugh. I am more of a recluse…what am I doing being so social? ha ha.

I got the Myspace to keep an eye on my step daughter (a lot of good that did me :-0 ) and then got a facebook to reconnect with high school friends. I just stumbled into tweeting and I still don't use that enough because now my blog has taken up all my free time ha ha. It is like I am sucked up in the tornado of social networking with Dorthy and Toto.

LOL FWiw that's why I got on Facebook too but it confuses and frustrates me–it's not terribly user-friendly :(

  8. Joder says:

I tweet and do FB, but despise MySpace (it loads poorly imo and I don't care for its questionable functionality). I like being able to reach people quickly and easily through these sites. And it's like a little game getting your point across in only 140 characters.

  9. Jane says:

I'm not on Facebook. So far I've resisted the temptation because I know that I'll spend too much of my time updating my page. I don't Twitter either. I used to have a MySpace page, but I got rid of it.

  10. Chelsea B. says:

You know what? I'm one of the odd ones. I don't have a Twitter, facebook, myspace, or anything else! And I've never even had the desire to get one!

  11. Armenia says:

    Whaa…I don't Facebook or Twitter.

I have a demanding young family that wants to be taken care of, you know, like cook meals, wash laundry, picked up from school, …geesh….darn it!! Although, they're nice enough to let me read in the tub uninterrupted. No, I do Blogger and visit all the wonderful reader/author blogs, because I leaves me just enough time for some serious reading.

  12. Fedora says:

OK, I'm on Twitter (finally) but actually post very infrequently. Ditto with Facebook and MySpace. I mainly love that I can keep up with other people's happenings, but assume that I'm too boring to follow myself :D

    • amiestuart says:

Fedora i doubt you are as boring as you think you are! I mean, hell, I'm a single mom. I know boRING LOL

      • Fedora says:

LOL! Well, maybe I am, and maybe I'm not; by tweeting, I'd probably be removing all doubt ;) And hey, Amie, you're kind of like anti-boring!

  13. I've been going more on FB but my personal one. I have 2! Personal and author one. I do go on Twitter but not much. I've discovered that I'd never leave the place so I try to avoid it. It's like crack. Dangerous addicting crack.

I have a Facebook account I look at once a month and a MySpace page so I can look at other people's blogs. I do not Twitter or follow as it is too random and I can't keep up with the online world as it is.

    • amiestuart says:

Lindsey….I often think how much simpler our lives were before 2.0 got a hold of us–but I love twitter. Then again, I'm more than a little ADHD!

  17. CrystalGB says:

I have a facebook account, a Myspace account and a Twitter account. I am not a really active poster on any of these but I do like all three.

  18. I've just started on Twitter, but I've been so busy recently I haven't really had a chance to explore or make friends. I'm also at Facebook and MySpace, but don't visit more than once a week. Maybe once my life settles down a bit I'll have a chance to chat.
