Wednesday Weirdness

Kim Killion is our Behind the Book guest this week at SFC!

I made a fairly big (for me) decision yesterday that makes me very happy but a little sad.

Last week the cable broke. We missed Supernatural :(  But the cable guy was cute as a bug and I gave him a signed copy of NAILED!

In other news, I have nothing to report. Life is fairly quiet and slow and I’m liking it.  Okay I have edits coming tomorrow for HITTIN’ IT–hoping she’s got/enclosing a copy of the cover too. I’ve only seen it in B & W and even that made me want to lick it *blink* –and I have a really quick turn-around so that’s my weekend plan.

We had football last night–it was a tie game. Have i mentioned how much I HATE football? And I’m not sure what angry god took autumn but I was really enjoying that cooler weather people!

Today after work I’m going home to get my six or eight pages.  Then I have to return dress shoes and pants for son #2 and get the correct sizes. Son #2 has d-hall this afternoon.  Son #1 has Saturday school for 2 hours. I honestly do NOT understand the point of Saturday school for TWO FRICKEN HOURS. Otherwise, life is quiet and kinda boring so I honestly don’t see a huge point in blogging and boring you with my boringness :)

On to Wednesday Weirdness weird-house-05.jpg

1. Would you rather join the Ghostbusters to hunt ghosts or join the Sesame Street bunch? Why?

Ghostbusters. Sesame Street creeps me out. Muppets are weird–sorry.

2. What is the most you are willing to do to get out of a police officer giving you a ticket?

If he’s hot, I’m game for anything :)

3. What popular movies do you find to be overrated?

Hmmm I typically skip anything I think is overrated. These are usually chick films or artsy things. And I find that stuff that wins Oscars usually pisses me off so I’ve learned to skip them too. :)

4. What is in (and/or on) your bedside table?

Books (like that’s a shocker), a magazine that has an article I”m saving for a book (but I don’t remember what article), salt (don’t ask), probably a glass of water from last night, my nail care bag (polish, files etc), a list of doctors that take our health insurance and um books.  (Sorry all the good stuff is NOT kept around my bed)

5. Have you ever had or fantasized about having sex with a boss before? Have you ever acted on that fantasy?

Ew NO! Ok yes, but I was 16 and he was HAWT

6. If you had a personal assistant, what would you have them do?

Freaking EVERYTHING dude. Hellooooooo Personal assistants assist! File, make appointments, copy stuff, go pick up my kids and return those shoes and pants to target for me while you’re at it.

7. Have you ever faked static, loss of cell phone reception or anything else on the telephone line to get out of a conversation?

No……I just don’t answer the phone :) Frankly, I htink phones are evol not to mention a pain in the ass.

Feel free to play along if you want!

Reading

I’m blogging at Southern Fried Chicas on query letters. I think this’ll be a two-parter.

Started reading Earthly Pleasures while getting a pedi on Saturday and ended up finishing it after a 2-hour worldbuilding chat with Vee. Here’s the blurb:

From Publishers Weekly
Neches presents in her appealingly unorthodox debut a heaven where angels lust, drink and follow terrestrial celebrity gossip. Skye Sebring is a greeter in the Hospitality Department of Heaven who finds herself drawn to the Earthly Pleasures TV channel (reality TV for Heaven dwellers) after she welcomes the handsome, reformed playboy Ryan Bad Boy Blaine to the pearly gates. The lawyer son of a former president, Ryan’s stay in heaven is cut short (his death is more of the brush-with-death variety), but he can’t forget Skye, who reminds him of someone he knew. The feeling is mutual for Skye, who follows Ryan back to Earth, where it’s pretty apparent there’s something strange going on with Ryan’s wife, Susan, who is planning a huge gala wedding follow-up to their earlier low-key impromptu nuptials. As Skye investigates her connection with Ryan and Ryan looks into what’s causing his wife’s strange behavior (he also forms a radio call-in show habit), a tangled story of cold ambition and true love unspools. Neches’s funny and sweet novel shows that to err is human and angelic as well. (Feb.)

I love, love LOVED the first two-thirds of this book. If for reading her take on heaven alone, I highly recommend–it’s a RIOT. The last 1/3 was good but not as much fun and there was a secondary storyline that felt forced and didn’t work for me. Overall, I’d still recommend it because it’s such a fun read. (It’s WF w/a romance). I’d LOVE to see another book set in the same heavenly world.

We have football on Tuesday so I’m sure I’ll pick another book from the pile to start. This brings my years total to 13

Over at SFC

I’m over at SFC today talking about Ravenous Romance and asking, “Will this raise the bar in epublishing?”

I got no writing done on Saturday but I had a GREAT girl’s afternoon out with Bailey Stuart, Lynn Matherly and Bailey’s good friend the oh-so-quiet-and-lovely Susie — We hit Michelle Miles‘ book signing…much book-buying ensued. Then we went out to linner (that’s lunch/dinner).

Then I drove him with Mik’s new book, and two YA’s in hand. Much reading ensued. As in I stayed up until Midnight reading, this book… by Robin Wasserman.

If you like Scott Westerfeld’s UGLIES series,  I HIGHLY recommend this one. I’ll also be doing some backlist glomming. And I passed it on to my kid.

Luckily I went nowhere Sunday….because this AM I took the kid to school, after chasing the damned dog, and had a flat on the way home. Much cursing ensued. :(

PS will update word-meters soon.

Behind the Book

The talented Carolyn Jewel is our guest blogger at SFC Today! I hope you’ll stop by!

Interesting conversation with small children on Saturday. We dropped the dog at the groomers and hit Borders. It was my b’day weekend and I wanted some new books. I’m standing in the romance section and #2 child makes fun of…the romances. I send him away and then he comes back a few minutes later with #1 child and they start up again. I send them away again. Finally, I’m getting ready to check out and I look at both my kids and say, “Those romances you were making fun of? They paid for the braces in your mouths.”

*headdesk*

Was digging through an old wip the other day. Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with this sentence and would you like to guess just how old this WIP is?

I wander the aisles with my headphones and CD walkman on, hoping no one will talk to me.

On the happy side, I discovered this manuscript is actually in pretty good shape. The opening chapter needs work (as does the synopsis), but I think it’s something my agent can totally shop.  And somewhere I have the opening few pages of the second book (it’s a two-book project).

All’s Quiet

All’s quiet on the home front (other than that incident with a pencil yesterday) but work is busy and will only get busier through the rest of the summer. Plus of course I have a new book coming out in uh like six weeks LOL OMG WTF *nailbite*

Rachel Caine (SQUEE!!!!!!!) is guest-blogging at SFC this Wednesday so be sure to stop by. Shes’ one of my fave YA writers–I HART her Morganville Vamps series!  Next week is the lovely Caridad Pinero and then……..Kelly Armstrong *faint* on July 30. *faint again*

I’ve discovered something sad about myself. I cannot resist a challenge–I’m a contest whore. See Deanna Lee did a quick contest for the Cobblestone Writers where all you had to do was ID the movie and scene where a certain something was said–it was from a movie that’s at least 20 years old*. And I won *blush*

BTW Charlene is looking for a new title for her book.  *sigh*Another challenge

Wow

I actually blogged this week. Here about tough guys and here about what’s irking me.

And….oh darn I can’t blog about it.  And it’s really funny too.  You can read it on my Myspace blog :D

Back to the cave.
